It is a known fact that most people leave companies because of their employers. To be more precise, the management. A company doesn't stand alone. Its given life through its management and employees. Thus the heart of the successful company lies in the hands of the management. Hence, there is no such thing as bad companies, only bad management.
I firmly believe that, lack of communication gives rise to all problems. Managers don't appear from 'HELL'. They were all once a normal employee just like you and me. True, character arises through their personality. But all in all, they were all once a bait of another manager who has forgotten their past, knowingly or unknowingly.
What makes them 'DEVILS' is the question we all ask ourselves. There could be many reasons for it. I think its because of the expanded responsibility and the pressure forced on then by their management. But is it a fair reason to be cruel to your subordinates?
During my years of experience with many managers, I believe its not a fair call. Also, its phenomenal that some managers are still the better person they were or even better.
What employees look from their managers is respect and appreciation. The main thing is to develop their morale. Managers should ideally focus on improving and developing their team, rather than mere achievement of work tasks. But surprisingly some tend to be more interested in the content of work than the minds of the people. One of the main reasons why a manager fail is because he/she looses their focus on individuals and get lost between work and deadlines. This would put pressure on the employees leading to lower productivity and low employee morale.
Managers are under lot of stress and pressure from their own superiors. Thus, they tend to take it up on their subordinates. I see this as another reason that brings out the devil in them. But instead they should learn to control their emotions and to control the situations. It will ease the pressure on others.
Once a manager said, most of the issues subordinates have are psychological. That made me think. Isn't everything about psychology? What makes a person do something? I believe it depends on his psychology. That is why people need to be happy. If we are happy we do good things. If we are sad or unhappy we do adverse. It’s the thought which drives people to do things. So I feel its true, and that should not be taken for granted. I strongly believe this is not an bad issue of the employee. Hence, its managers duty to keep employee's mentality inline with happiness, thus in return they earn good results.
Most importantly, mangers should understand their team. The more you understand the better it gets. Continuous feedback is a must. Feedback should not be kept for last, as it gets super uglier with time. The more frequent the feedback is given the more easier and faster the team develops. It is important to know that feedback does not mean criticism. It comprises of both good and bad wrapped up with knowledge which makes it extra tasty. This is where many superiors go wrong. They tend to take feedback as simply a chance to display their intelligence. Ultimately, blame all the 'BAD' on the subordinates and take the 'GOOD' on themselves.
These are just simple tips that managers need to know while working with subordinates. After all, everything is a team effort. A team should not have just individuals. It should be a collection of them who act as an individual. "Synergy" is the success.
